Clay Picasso Faces

On Thursday before Spring break, my first class of 3rd graders finished their clay Picasso faces.  This essentially turned out to be a 4-day project, but I'm pretty sure next year I could squeeze it down to a 3-day project instead.  Here's my previous post about building the faces.

I love the one on the right!  Such a cool ear and funny mustache!

Finished Staff Portraits

We're finally finishing up with our staff portraits, the last project in my 4th grade portrait unit..  (You can see our practice staff portraits here.  Our first project in the unit, pop art portraits, can be seen here.)  I must say, I'm pretty happy with the results!  Most of the students captured a pretty decent likeness of their chosen staff member.  The one thing I'm not too happy about is their lack of value.  Our next unit will be a pointillism unit so I can teach the students about painting with value (I LOVE pointillism, by the way!)

More Egyptian Artifacts

Here are a few more of the finished Egyptian Artifacts.  I was finally able to fire my kiln on Monday so this project is now officially finished!  I do really wish a few of the kids would have put more thought and time into their color choices while glazing.  These projects are great, but they could have been even better with more colors!

Kindergarten and 1st grade have finished up their YAM projects!  Here are out Mr. Seahorse and Monet's Pond projects...(the 4 seasons kindergarten project is being finished today and tomorrow...I'll have photos to post as soon as they dry on the drying rack!)

YAM: Dress Like Your Favorite Artist or Artwork

So here it is, our last YAM spirit day!  Today was dress like your favorite artist or artwork day and there were some really awesome costumes, especially from some of the teachers!!!  (The really funny part is that I did my makeup at home and then forgot that I had to stop and get gas on the way to work!  The little gas station on the way doesn't accept credit cards at the pump...you have to pay inside.  The women there know me well...all they said was, "Must be something going on at school today!")

Our principal is on the left...she's been waiting over a month to wear the dress she bought for today!

Here is the project 4th graders worked on.  Their teacher chose Van Gogh and their teacher incorporated it into their science unit of constellations!  Awesome!
