Blogger Comment Spam...please give me your feedback!
Lately I've been getting A LOT of spam comments on my blog...they appear to be from "companies" and they seem legit, but I'm pretty sure they aren't, especially since they don't relate to my posts! A few days ago I went into my settings to make sure the word verification was turned on, and it says it is, but I'm still getting these random comments! Can anyone tell me if blogger makes you do the word verification before it allows you to post a comment? I really don't want to have to moderate ALL my comments...it makes having a conversation more difficult on the post and I don't always check my blog e-mail in a timely fashion!
Yes you have to put the word verification code in before your comment will be posted. I was getting some of that spam to my blog e-mail and have tagged them as spam so now they just get thrown into spam and thrown out! I was getting a lot of obnoxious spam comments when i turned my word verification off but after I turned it back on i have not had any problem. So sorry to all that don't like word verification but it keeps the spam/obnoxious robo comments out! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSee...there is actually a spam comment right before yours! This is a little frustrating...
DeleteI occasionally get a random spam comment. But I just hate the word verification so much that I took it off mine. Most the time the comments just go to my spam folder if they look suspicious...but this so rarely happens. Thankfully!
ReplyDeleteI get them in my email but I'm used to that...I don't understand how the spam comments are being able to be posted on my blog though with the verification thing.
ReplyDeleteI turned off the verification thing on my blog a while back because it made leaving comments such a pain and didn't stop spam anyhow.
ReplyDeleteBut anyhow, here's what you do: go to your blogger dashboard, and pull up your list of comments. Go through and 'mark as spam' any spam comments you've gotten, including the first one on this post. Once you have done this, when the same spammer posts a comment it will automatically be identified as spam. Once a comment is marked as spam, it will not appear on the post any more. It's an easy and effective solution. Hope this helps! Don't let the spam comments stay on your post! Take a couple of minutes every day to check your blog email so that you can keep an eye on it and mark the spam immediately, and it will pay off in the long run.
(By the way, have you gotten the spam about how all American women are evil? It's a rather long diatribe and I made sure it was gone FAST when it showed up on my blog.)
Oh - and yes, in order to post this there is a word verification thing to do.
Thanks Phyl. Not sure how I missed the spam button on the blogger dashboard. I knew that if I marked it spam in my e-mail that it would probably mark blogger as spam in generally, because that's who sends the e-mail notification that I have new comments!
DeleteI am thinking about disabling the word verification...I always hate it. Sometimes I have to refresh it three or four times until I can actually read the letters and numbers!
Great suggestions ladies. I hate that word verification and wondered if it was worth it. I may remove mine as I get more confident in Blogging.
ReplyDeleteI have been having the same problem. I don't like the word verification and took it off a while back. Can everyone see your spam posts? Mine either are marked as spam or just end up in my email but I have yet to see it actually post.
ReplyDeleteI think others can see the spam comments. I already deleted the one that was posted to this blog post. When I look at my blog from my phone I can always see the spam posts as well.
DeleteYou shouldn't be able to see the posts once you have marked them as spam. They will still show up in your email, but not on your public blog.
DeleteThanks for fabulous
