Wow...how did miss the special edition Andy Warhol cans on sale at Target??? This is one of those moments where it really stinks living out in the sticks...the nearest Target store is over an hour away from me! :( Hopefully my call home to beg my brother/mom to shop at Target this week will find me four cans!
This week, I will be completing (finally!) my 6th grade pre-assessment and hopefully the 5th grade pre-assessment. Those are the last two I need to complete!!!
I'm also starting my planned units with K-4. This year is the first year that I have really mapped out what I am going to do, and have pre-picked art projects to fit each unit. Although, Pinterest might change some of those already!
Tomorrow I will start my yearly "Mixing Colors" activity with my Kindergartners and I will follow that project with my "Primary Lines" project. My 1st graders will be introduced to ROY G BIV via Greg Percy and some smart board rainbow games. 2nd grade on Tuesday will learn about Dale Chihuly and will participate in a series of 2D vs 3D Chihuly inspired projects. My 3rd graders will participate in a project to kick off learning about depth in landscapes...fall birch trees! I think the birch tree paintings are one of my favorite projects! They always turn out so great, even for the less advanced students. And finally, 4th grade will beginning learning about shape vs. form. I will teach them how to draw 3D shapes on paper, and how to add value to these shapes. Eventually, they will create a futuristic city drawing using what they learn.
Hope everyone has a great Monday tomorrow!
Welcome to Art Room 104! Well, I no longer teach in room 104...it's now room 309, but the heart is still there! I have now transitioned into teaching 7th-12th grades, and my focus is now moving towards Choice Based Learning in the art room. Join me on my journey as I enter new territory, experiment, and share how I fit it all into the realm of Common Core!

Busy Week!
Before I begin my post...I just need to share a photo of one of my family dogs, Larry. Larry was a Katrina rescue. He had two families after Katrina before my mom and I picked him out to adopt, somewhere around my freshmen year of college. Yesterday was a rough day because my dad had to call me to tell me Larry was hit by a car and didn't make it... :( He was such a cute little beagle and my cuddle buddy whenever I went home to visit my parents. He'll be missed! (And yes, his tongue was too long for his mouth! It always hung out like that, all dry and crusty...such a character he was!)
On an art note, I'm insanely jealous that all you other art teachers out there already have completed art work to show! My 5th and 6th graders are finishing up their anti-bullying slogans...which will probably take another class or two at the most...then I have to give them their pre-assessment before I start covering my material! This is taking forever!!!
The good news...my K-4 pre-assessments will all be complete as of tomorrow!!!! That means they get to start my art projects next week on Monday and I'll FINALLY have art projects to share! Yea!!!
Well, here are some photos of what we've been doing in class these last few days:
5th Grade, trimming and sorting their alphabet letters for their anti-bullying slogans.
Kindergartners, cutting and gluing for their pre-assessment. The student below already has AMAZING cutting skills for a Kindergartner!
Sorting bottle caps during their free minutes before class ends!

King Tut's death solved???
Did anyone see this article on Yahoo! this morning? Ancient Egypt is by far my favorite time period in ancient cultures and art history...they're so interesting! It always catches my eye when there is something in the news about King Tut, the pyramids, or anything else that has to do with Ancient Egypt!
