Phew! Today I spent almost five hours putting away all my supplies and I'm not done yet! My biggest obstacle is finding someplace to put my tempera paint...it used to be stores in a deep cabinet on an outside wall...I had to throw out so much paint that got too cold and separated! Now I've moved it to a shallower cabinet on an inside wall but don't have enough space to store it all in one spot! :-/
And...I have experienced an art room horror... Yes, I ordered glitter this year...a single jar of black, purple, blue, gold, silver, red and orange. However, Boces apparently sent me 12 bottles of multi-colored glitter! When the school corrected the order, they sent THREE of the original colors I ordered!!!! Anyone want some glitter???
You have enough glitter for an army! Maybe some of your colleagues would like some? Share the wealth! I stopped buying regular glitter many years ago as I had a student get some in their eye once... not fun :( I now buy glitter "flakes" they are iridescent pieces that look like small shredded pieces of plastic film. I have not had to buy any for a few years as I way over ordered and have been using the same stash for years! A little goes a long way! :)
ReplyDeleteI only wish! Haha, the high school art teacher DESPISES glitter and won't take any of it...I already asked her! Most of the other teachers won't take it either! I think I'm just stuck with it...the Elementary art room will never have to buy glitter again, for as long as it is existence! I will have to look into the glitter flakes!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSorry about the glitter. I like the title of one of the blogs I follow. Art Teachers Hate Glittter". So true. Crazy person you... As for the paint I keep all my unopened new paint bottles in a big plastic tote. The biggest on you can buy(almost a christmas tree size one). It stays put when full for sure. I have another tote on top of it with all my ceramics stuff in it. Anyway, just a thought for all the extra paint you have that won't fit in the cabinet. It also hides it, so that kids aren't opening new bottles before the old ones are gone!
I follow that blog too! I think I will have enough room to store the bottles in a cupboard if I move stuff around. I probably already have 15 totes full of stuff on my counter tops that hide my windows...and I can't afford to lose any more counter space. Sometimes I wonder what the previous art teacher was thinking when she designed this room. The part I especially hate is that my desk is a permanent fixture. The desktop is an extension of one of the counter tops so I can't ever rearrange my room in terms of my desk and the tables my students work at. And for me, that's hard! I probably rearrange my living room at least 2-3 times a year!
ReplyDeleteNo thanks to the glitter! We've had a couple bottles that have lasted us for a lonnnnng time. I really hate how glitter gets everywhere! I started following your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) I will use glitter with the 6th graders when we make their oil pastel snow globes and they usually do alright. I did, however, tempt using glitter with my 1st graders this year when we made circle trees...one class did really well with it, the other class, well, let's just say I had glitter in my underwear when I went to shower that night!
